We're pleased to announce an update to the Edge platform that enhances the way attorneys and inventors work with patent figures and labels. Practitioners now have an easy way to add labels, keep track of label elements, and then reference them consistently in an application. You can also see videos of these features in action. If you want to try Edge, please contact us.
Simplified Figure and Label Management
Figures are one of the most important part of a patent. With Edge, it is now easy to upload a figure and start working with it. Press the “upload” button to add your figures. It will then be in the platform and ready to use.
Once the figure is uploaded, you can start drawing and managing your labels in a straightforward manner:
Go to the "Figures" tab.
Click "Edit labels" to add or adjust labels directly on the figure.
Click and drag to add label lines, which are automatically numbered
Customize labels and descriptions using simple tools provided.
Edge automatically keeps track of things like label numbers, even across the application. For example, if you have an element that is represented across multiple figures, Edge will keep track of that, preventing simple errors that result in office actions. You can also reference claims.
Streamlined References
Referencing figures and labels in your patent documentation is now a dynamic process:
Type @ to start referencing figures and labels.
Use F followed by a number to select a figure. (If you just want to reference the figure, press “space” and you’ll generate a figure reference, like before)
Add a comma and a number to generate a preview of the figure and choose a label.
Press space to insert an auto-updating reference.
These references will reflect changes in your application. If you change an element name for a label, it will update throughout the application. The same is true of the label numbers.
