We’re proud to announce what we’ve been working on: Edge. We are the ultimate assistant to help you with patents. We use good design and advances in artificial intelligence to dramatically improve your writing and remove the pain of working with patents, both for the practitioners and for the inventors. We’ll be showing more of the product over the coming weeks. To give you a small preview, check out a video of our product recreating the claims from the actual PageRank patent from 1998. Notice how, without us telling it to, it picks up on some of the subtleties of the actual claims of the patent that you wouldn’t get from just a technology description from an inventor. You can compare it to the real, published patent yourself!
I’m Evan J. Zimmerman, the CEO of Edge. I have a JD from Berkeley Law with a specialization in patents. I have deep experience with patents, whether it’s my investment firm Jovono, where our biggest exit involved a software patent, or Mighty Ventures, where our profits come from patent licensing. My cofounder is Len Boyette, an early Okta employee whose software has been downloaded over a billion times globally. His specialties are cybersecurity, the cloud, and the cutting edge, which is where we find ourselves today with the rise of artificial intelligence. We both saw the power of IP our entire careers.
Len and I met a year ago through a mutual friend and went through Y Combinator together. Our software was powering pharma, which is perhaps the most patent-sensitive industry in the world. When we saw how IP considerations ruled everything around us, we decided to go back to our roots.
That’s why we’re building Edge. Our logo is designed after the Wright Brothers flyer, arguably the most famous patent drawing of all time. And like the Kitty Hawk, we’re ready to take flight.
Interested? Reach out. We’re working on tools to help patent attorneys and agents in outside counsel as well as inventors and in-house counsel. We want to talk to you whichever side of the table you’re on.
One more thing—please subscribe to our newsletter, Nonobvious. You’re reading it right now. We’re going to be publishing interesting stories on patents and intellectual property. How-tos, stories, think pieces, and just interesting stuff, along with weekly updates on important things happening in the patent world. You won’t want to miss it. Subscribe below.
